For example, an AirPro Oxygen Generator uses PSA technology to separate oxygen from ambient air under high pressure. Special adsorbing materials like zeolite are used as a molecular sieve trapping nitrogen from ambient air, alowing oxygen molecules to pass through the sieve bed and into a receiver vessel. Then the process swings to lower pressure to ‘desorb’, the zeolite then releases the nitrogen molecules, which are exhausted. The result is high purity oxygen at the outlet of the generator.

When we produce nitrogen instead, we use a carbon molecular sieve. In this case, we isolate the oxygen molecules and exhaust them to atmosphere.
